icci KAWARA PRODUCTS is a brand of tile goods launched by Ichinose Tile Industry, which has been in business for 107 years.

The brand includes mugs and dripper sets made of beautiful roof tiles, the pride of Japan. The brand is a new value of roof tiles from Fuefuki-shi, Yamanashi Prefecture, to the world.

Tiles have long been a part of the Japanese landscape. Its existence is so commonplace that many Japanese people probably do not pay attention to it.

Although people are aware that tiles are used for roofs, the appeal of these tiles has not yet reached them, which is a major challenge.

We wondered, “Can’t we take roofing tiles off the roof and make them more integrated into everyday life?”

It was Yasuhiro Ichinose, the fifth generation of Ichinose Tile Industry, who came up with this idea.

Tiles are the most functional roofing material. But did you know that it is also a work of art?

Onigawara, which take the form of demons or lions, contain prayers to “ward off evil spirits” and are used to glare down from the roof to keep evil spirits away from the house. Onigawara with water-related designs such as clouds, waves, and springs are also used to pray for “fire prevention” by raising water-related deities to the roof. The well-known “shachihoko,” or killer whale, is actually a water god.

Convinced of the potential of kawara, Ichinose came up with the idea of combining kawara with “food, clothing, and shelter,” an indispensable element common throughout the world.
