mg&gk|The Charm of Arita Ware
mg&gk is a brand of Arita-yaki pottery. It was born out of a desire to encourage people to cherish the time they spend relaxing and taking a breath. We would like to share with you the appeal of mg&gk, which proposes traditional Arita-yaki porcelain for your modern lifestyle.
What is mg&gk?
mg&gk is a new brand created with the desire to make Arita-yaki more accessible. The origin of the name “mg&gk” comes from the image of eating and drinking a little “mogugu, goku goku”.
Arita-yaki is a traditional Japanese porcelain produced in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture. It is characterized by the beauty of white porcelain and gorgeous painting using blue, red, and gold. Because Arita-yaki is fired at high temperatures, it has superior strength and durability, making it a favorite for use as tableware, tea ceremony utensils, and decorative objects.
mg&gk uses an indigo pigment called gozu, which is commonly used in Arita-yaki, to create designs that are in tune with the current era while retaining the qualities of Arita-yaki.
Product designer Shizuka Tatsuno was in charge of the design, and Yumiko Shinohara, the third generation owner of Keizangama, a famous Arita-yaki porcelain kiln, gave it shape. Designs drawn from a woman’s perspective and soft shapes are also the charm of mg&gk.
Three recommended products
mg&gk’s designs have long been considered auspicious: cloisonne, wave, hemp leaf, and stripe, which are common to all of the main series.
They are characterized by their light colors, which are intended to go well with any food and to give a gentle impression. In this issue, we will introduce three of the most recommended selections from the lovely mg&gk.
Bucket and soup bowl
Bucket and Soup Vessel is a set of a round bowl and an oval bowl. The round shape is suitable for holding soup. The deepness of the bowls makes them suitable for serving salads, yogurt, and rice as well as soups.
The oval-shaped plates are flat and not too large, making them ideal for side dishes or pastries. You can also place a cut cake on the oval plate and enjoy it during snack time. It is also a perfect gift vessel.
Financier and tea bowl
The Financier and Tea Vase is a set of vessels suitable for tea time when you want to take a break. The jewel-shaped bowl is just the right size to hold a financier. The bowl is smaller than a bucket plate and takes up less space, so it will be useful when you take a break at your desk.
The cups are large enough to pour plenty of tea or coffee. The light and gentle colors of the cups make them useful for everyday use as well as for guests.
Boro and hojicha cups
The tea bowl is a set of a small round plate and a cylindrical teacup. The small round plate is just the right size for placing “Maruboro,” Saga’s famous confectionary, a traditional confectionary. The size is just right for serving sweets.
The teacups are cylindrical and small in diameter so that the aroma will stand out. The teacup is thick to prevent the warmth of hojicha from escaping.
Conclusion
We introduced mg&gk, a new brand of Arita-yaki porcelain. This time we mainly introduced items sold in sets, but it is also possible to purchase individual items such as plates only or cups only.
Why not try mg&gk for special occasions, or just for everyday eating and drinking?
